Melissa Shields

Co-President

Hi, I’m Melissa Shields; I am the 2009-2010 Co-President.  I have served on the board since its inception in 2007; as the Fund Raising Coordinator.  In my professional time, I work as a Business Analyst. My daughter is a 7th grader at the Academy and has been here since it opened its doors 2 years ago. I’m grateful that Mesa developed the Academy so that our students can get the best education possible (and it keeps them on their toes).  While we would LOVE to have each and every parent/staff member at the monthly general meetings, we understand that everyone is busy and not always able to attend.  Visit our website before each meeting to see what our agenda items are and if you are unable to make it, send a proxy, or email us ahead of time .  I look forward to having a great year and can’t wait to work with the Academy parents, staff and students to create an awesome PTO.

Amy Campbell

Co-President

Hello, my name is Amy Campbell.  I have a daughter in the 7th grade.  For the past 2 years, I have served the PTO as secretary and am looking forward to serving as Co-President, with Melissa this year.  We have lots of activities and fun things planned for this year.  Hopefully, with your help, we can raise money and do good things for the school.  If you have any questions or need anything, please feel free to contact us.  Thanks for all your support, we can't do anything without our Academy families!

Cheryl Boland

Vice President

Good Day!  I’m Cheryl Boland your vice president for the 2009-2010 PTO year. I have a 7th grader who has been at the Academy since the opening and doesn’t seem to mind me “always” being at the school. I’m a retired MRI/ CAT Scan technologist with a lot of time on my hands and although this is my first year on the PTO Board, I have been a very active parent volunteer for M.A.A.S. You can find me where ever the faculty & students need help including Lunch duty, Structured Activity, field trips, Study Hall, Drama Club, handling the used uniform sales, and even giving bone anatomy lessons to the 5th grade science classes. I’m excited about all the opportunities available for the PTO to work closely with the teachers, parents, and students. Together we can make this the best possible year for the children. I look forward to meeting & working with all of you.

Katerina Odekirk

Secretary

Hi, My name is Katrina Odekirk. I am the 2009-2010 Secretary and am new to the board this year.  I have helped with many PTO events over the past two years and have enjoyed it so welcomed the opportunity to get more involved.  My daughter is a 7th grader at the Academy and has been here since the inaugural year.  Mesa Academy is by far the most rewarding school my daughter has attended and we love the challenges it presents with each and every day.  We are really looking forward to another year with the Academy.  Professionally, I am the Manager of Fiscal and Business Services for the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical and Materials Engineering at Arizona State University.  I have been at ASU for over 9 years and love the every day challenges of the academic and research world.  I look forward to getting to know other academy parents this years and hope that you will get involved with PTO.  It is a rewarding experience for both you and your Academy Knight!

Hello, my name is Christine Deets and this will be my third year as Volunteer Coordinator for the Academy.  I have a daughter who is in the 5th grade.  Our school would not be successful without our volunteers.  I want to thank all of the people who took their time to volunteer and look forward to working with you this upcoming year.

Our goal is to become a cohesive team with the academy parents, teachers, and staff.  We look forward to having the students’ parents join us the first Monday each month for General Meetings
